Study Takes Discipline

A few months ago, I certified to become a Zumba instructor. Right after that, I went through the process to get my Group Exercise Certification. It was a process for both, and there was something that was required of me to receive the certifications. The same thing that was required for the certifications is also required of every born-again believer who desires to be righteous representatives of a risen Savior! That thing is discipline. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." The first word in this verse lets us know that casual perusing of scripture is not enough. In order to be a approved workman who rightly divides the word of truth you have to study. And study takes discipline. When I was preparing for the group exercise certification I had to study. Every day I took time out to go over the material by reviewing, rehearsing and reciting it to pass the test...

Keys to Love Like God Loves Part 2

I am so excited about this love message. We really can love like God! The key is to apply the keys to unlock God's love in our hearts so that we can be living epistles of His love! If we don't apply what we learn, it will forever go down in history as information. If we apply what we learn, the information will become revelation and everyone will see the manifestation of the information that we have learned. Glory! Yesterday we looked at the first key which was love your enemy. Today we will look at the next two keys to perfect our love life. I'm excited and expecting lives to be forever changed! We can love like God. The second key is love first. 1 John 4:19 says we love Him because He first loved us. While we were yet deep in our sins, Christ died for us. That's love! He came, lived, died and rose again, before we even acknowledged who He was. He showed that He loved us first, by letting us know that His love for us was unconditional.   So the pragmatics of the...

Keys To Love Like God Loves

What is so wrong with living right? I have asked myself, our children, the church and anybody else this very question. The answer is always, "nothing," yet as believers many are challenged with just living right. Many believers are also challenged with loving others like God loves them. Living right or right living is indicative of obedience and obedience from the heart is an outward display of a high level of love for the Lord. Yes, we are still ministering on this powerful subject of love so that we can bring the theology into reality. God wants us as believers to display His love one to another so that the world will know that we belong to Him. Righteousness or living right is when we bring what has been read in the Bible into our every day lives. One way that we can live right is to bring our inner love life out into the light. This is not a difficult thing to do if you love God and want to obey Him. In John 14:15 Jesus clearly expresses this by saying, "If ...

Do You Love God More?

A common question asked in the Body of Christ is, "Do you love God?" It almost seems like a silly question because all Christians love God, right? I mean, God's love and believer's reciprocating that love is Christianity 101. It is the foundation for everything that we do. So, really the question should be, "Do you love God more?" In John 21:15 Jesus asked Peter did he love Him more? The Lord is asking the same question today because many people say that they love God, but they do not love Him more than their money, career, ministry, children, etc. This is seen in the way that they show their love for God. You see, it's never an issue of whether a person love's God or not. The question is, was and forever will be, "Do you love Him more?" This has been an incredible season in the Lord where He is challenging our love life with Him. This is a challenge because most have been going about the Lord's work with a sense that their love li...

Love Is Obedient

I've got love on my mind. There is nothing particularly wrong. It's this feeling I feel inside. When I woke up early this morning, it was staring me straight in my eyes. For those of us raised in the seventies and on Motown, you know this is from the popular song, "I Got Love On My Mind." Natalie Cole was singing of a lover or significant other. For me, as I have been studying this month, I've got the love of God on my mind! Every morning when I wake up with another life pass, love stares me straight in the eyes! It fills me with purpose, assurance and clarity of vision. I can't explain it, but I know that I have experienced the love of God. Though I have experienced his great love and rich mercy, I find that sometimes, more often than I choose to discuss, my love gets off. Ugh! I find myself being selective and shallow in my love, only loving those I like and it is not until God gets my attention that I realize that somewhere, somehow, my love has gotten...

Commanded to Love

There are many cliches referring to love. Love is a many splendid thing. What's love got to do with it? If loving you is wrong I don't want to be right. These are all phrases from love songs, and many have adapted them as their own way of thinking. The problem with this is that the songs above are not referring to God's love, which is the love we are commanded to love with. The Bible has much to say about love, which I am not even going to attempt to put in this blog. The servers are not big enough! Therefore, for the sake of this devotion, I will only focus on a few. First, let's look at Mark 12:27-31 which says, "Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your s...

God CANNOT Lie

Well, I know you know that God cannot lie, but, I also know that many believers are challenged with believing the truth of that statement. The reasoning behind it may be because of a parent who made promises and didn't come through. Perhaps someone else in your life continually broke promises. I don't know, nor will I try to justify why those people in your life didn't keep their word. Nevertheless, that does not change the fact that God CANNOT lie! The antithesis of that fact is the fact that the devil IS a liar. He has gone throughout your life creating situations and circumstances to get you to doubt God. So, all the times your parents, peers and other people let you down was a set up by the devil. Now that you are saved, God, by the power of the Holy Ghost wants to reverse the curse. How do you reverse all the years of disappointment? Well, it's simple. You must take the time to find out what God says in His Word and begin to meditate, memorize and speak it eve...
