Hydrate

Now that I have entered the fitness world, I keep hearing the word, "hydrate." Of course we know this to mean drink water. When a person is exercising they sweat, and this depletes the body of water. Therefore it is necessary to replenish the body with water that has been lost through exercise.

Even without exercise, it is important and necessary to drink lots of water. They say that we should drink at least half our body weight in water which for most, equates to about eight, eight ounce glasses of water a day. The reason this is essential, whether the individual exercises or not is because the human body is comprised of sixty percent water. This is over half of the body's composition and it makes sense that water is needed to keep things functioning and flowing well in the body.

That's the natural. Spiritually speaking, the Word of God is equated to wash like water. Ephesians 5:26-27 says, "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." It is the daily intake of the Word of God that sanctifies and cleanses every believer. When we received Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, that was a one time event which does not have to be repeated. At that moment, the process of sanctification began and the Word of God began to clean out or wash away, if you will, everything that was not like God.

This is why the Word of God is so important. If the believer is not in the Word every day and applying the truths learned, the process of sanctification or washing is halted. It's like not drinking water for a day or two. The waste that comes from the body is dark and has a strong odor. This is always an indication that water has not been through the system to flush out the impurities.

We live our lives in such a way that if the Word of God is not read and applied daily that we will produce works of the flesh. This doesn't always mean fornication, drugs and alcohol either. It means a little lying, cheating and bad attitudes which can lead to the more harmful sins. That is why it is imperative to read and do the Word of God every day.

Joshua 1:8, John 8:30-31 and James 1:21-22 reiterate this truth. I encourage you to read, and rehearse these verses so that you can produce the fruits of righteousness in your lives. Just like the natural body needs water to flush out the impurities, so does the spirit man need the Word of God to flush out the impurities of the inherent sin nature. The blessing is that if you apply this simple truth to your life, you will be blessed and please the Father as well.

With that said, hydrate! Your spirit, soul and body will be the better for it.

Love, peace and blessings,

Dr. Sheila
