The Cure for Unbelief

Good morning to all! The Word at DCCLV on Sunday June 12, 2011 was truly convicting. I believe many of us from that word did a self check and saw where we were lacking. I, myself went home and immediately rehearsed to retain.

One of the most powerful things to me that was said was what Pastor shared from Joshua's summer college course. His professor told the class that the students who go and study the class material immediately after class retain 85% of the information that was taught in the class. Those students who do not go over the lesson immediately only retain 5%. These are startling statistics, but it showed the man in the mirror the reason for unbelief.

We all understand Romans 10:17 where it says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. However, it is evident that faith has not come because of the level of unbelief that is in the life of many believers. I mean really, how many times have we not cast out the little demon in the little boy in our own life due to a lack of rehearsing the Word on that particular little demon in the little boy? If Jesus has given us power against unclean spirits to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and disease, why is the average believer not doing this?

The simple answer to this question is found in Matthew 17: 20. The Message translation says it this way, "Because you're not yet taking God seriously,"said Jesus."The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, 'Move!' and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn't be able to tackle." If we would just take God seriously and meditate on His Word day and night and do what it says, we will make our own way prosperous and have good success (Joshua 1:8).

As believers, we need to pray and fast to build our own spiritual belief system; not to cast out certain demons. The belief system has to be built on the Word of God because unbelief comes in due to lack of trust in the Word of God due to lack of daily time spent in the Word of God. The other reason the belief system has to be built is because our natural tendency is to rebel against the Word of God. The is where the second type of unbelief comes in.

Hebrews 4:6 says, "Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief." This word unbelief in the Greek is "apeitheia." It is disobedience; unwillingness to be persuaded and obstinacy. This unbelief is worse than the first (lack of trust) because the attitude of this person says, "Whatever. I will not believe."

Don't lack trust in God today or be a stubborn unbelieving believer. Take time out this week to rehearse this message so that you will retain the Word you heard. The cure for unbelief is simple. Follow Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2. If you will be obedient to just these two verses, you will be cured of all unbelief.

Understanding the Kingdom of Heaven in 2011,

Pastor Sheila
