He Has Delivered Us
God is all powerful and mighty to save. Colossians 1:13 teaches that, He has delivered us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His Son. This means that, the only control the devil has over believers is what we allow him to have. He is a defeated foe who will never, and I mean never be able to overthrow the kingdom of God.
How then, does the devil, who is a defeated foe, still have so many of God's children bound? This is a good question to pause, ponder and pay attention to, especially if you find yourself in bondage to the enemy. The answer to the question lies in this truth, "The only true power the devil holds over a believer is the power of deception." If you do not have an intense, well instructed, deep knowledge of, or a revelation of the truth, the devil will always be able to take advantage of you. And, the only way to have a revelation of the truth is to read, understand and act on the Scriptures.
The two areas the devil's power of deception that are seen most in saints life are chatter and choices. You see, the enemy is like a person who is paralyzed from the neck down. All he can do is talk! However, his argument is so convincing, paralyzed and all, he tells us to take the gun beside his bed and aim it at our our head, then pull the trigger.
This may sound crazy, but that is basically how bondage takes place in the believers life. You may think this is crazy, but it happens constantly with people who do not realize that the words they speak are powerful. If what is being spoken is not in line with the Word of God then, ideas they speak originate with the devil. Every day the devil convinces millions of people to take a spiritual "weapon" -- their words -- and use it against themselves.
Two verses in Proverbs support this truth. Proverbs 6:2 says, "Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth." Proverbs 18:21 says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." It is clearly seen here from these two verses that the words we speak can be used as a weapon against us. Therefore, don't be snared by the words of your mouth by speaking contrary to the Word of God. Speak life and eat the fruit of speaking life filled words all the time, every time, no matter what the situation or circumstance presents.
The other way the devil deceives believers is through choices. This is a profound truth because everyone of us are where we are, whether good or bad because of choices we have made. Furthermore, the choice to obey or disobey God is always before every Christian and God will never make us obey. We have to choose, by an act of our will, out of love for the Father, to obey Him all the way, right away and with a right attitude.
Jeremiah 4:18 says it this way, "Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart." Look at how it reads in the Message Bible, "It's the way you've lived that's brought all this on you. The bitter taste is from your evil life. That's what's piercing your heart." This is powerful because it makes you look at you and the choices that you have made. God is not the reason that you are in debt. You chose to spend more than you had. God is not the reason you got a divorce. You chose to disobey the scripture in regards to your marriage. God is not the reason you are discontented. You chose to find contentment in something or someone else and it backfired.
Therefore, don't be deceived! Don't allow the devil's chatter cause you to make bad choices. Don't let him trick you into thinking it is a good choice because in the end, you will find out that when you make bad choices, you don't get to choose the consequences. They choose you.
God is truthful to His Word and faithful to perform it. He has delivered you from the kingdom of darkness and translated you into the kingdom of His Son. You have been delivered, so you are free. Declare your freedom and let the devil and all his cohorts that you will NOT go back by listening to his chatter and making bad choices.
