Water And The Word

Years ago when I was in a college biology class, I will never forget the resounding words of the professor. He said, "H2O, it's good stuff." I don't remember anything else about the lesson, but I do recall him teaching us that water is good for the human body. Several years later, at a women's conference in Texas, One of the speakers wrote a book entitled, Drink Water and Live. In this book, as well as in the message, she spoke of the vital importance of drinking water.

Studies have shown that filling up on water suppresses the appetite. That word "suppress" means to forcibly put an end to. In other words, filling up on water kills the appetite to eat. In the same way, if a Christian would fill up on the Word of God it would suppress or forcibly put and end to the desire to sin. Filling up on the Word of God will suppress the soul to sin. When a person is having sin issues in their life, it is evident that they are not spending adequate time in the Word.

Just like the body needs water to function properly, the spirit man needs the Word of God to function properly and keep sin suppressed. Yes, the Word is a powerful sin suppressant! Unfortunately, many saints neglect the Word of God and as a result, live defeated Christian lives. They wonder why they are frustrated, disillusioned and having a hard time overcoming sin, when the simple solution is found in the reading, reciting and rehearsing the Word of God every day.

This is very clear as it is spelled out in Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 1:2-3. Both of these verses clearly state that success in life as a Christian is directly connected to daily reading and doing the Word of God. Why then, after reading and understanding these verses do saints still neglect this vital daily devotion? I believe it is because the enemy has tricked them into thinking that the Bible can't help like that.

Well, the devil is a liar! Look at these verses.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate therein, day and night and be careful to do all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous and have good success.

Psalm 1:1-2 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls.

Ephesians 5:26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,

It is the Word of God that saves the soul. It is the Word of God that cleanses and sanctifies the soul. It is the Word of God, when meditated on daily and obeyed that guarantees success! Your spirit man needs the Word just like your natural man needs water. Therefore, read your Bible and live! It may not feel like it is doing anything and sometimes it may not even make sense. Nevertheless, just because it doesn't feel like anything is happening, doesn't mean that nothing isn't happening. Besides, it not about how you feel, but trusting by faith that the Word is doing what needs to be done in your life.

The water and the Word are synonymous in their correlation to the body and the spirit. Don't let another day go by without drinking water and spending quality time reading, reciting and rehearsing the Word of God. Your spiritual life depends on it.

Love, peace and blessings

  1. Excellent blog today (no different than any other day),. Just like not drinking water causes ALL kinds of issues in our physical bodes, not filling up on the word DAILY wreaks havoc on us spiritually!
